The specialized hate crime unit within the Stockholm City Police organized training on addressing hate crimes for all police officers working in the field. The Police Authority of Västernorrland County improved its recording of hate crimes for both internal and external use, and also reviewed its associated regulations and procedures.
Official figures record 2,493 racist and xenophobic crimes.
The Swedish police identified an estimated 3786 hate crime reports with xenophobic/racist motives. The overall figure presented here (2493) excludes the following incidents that do not fall within the OSCE definition of hate crime: 716 defamation; 363 hate speech; and 134 unlawful discrimination.
Anti-Roma crimes (80) were also reported under this category but are presented separately in the section below.

Sweden reported 272 anti-Muslim hate crimes. The overall figure presented here (151) excludes the following incidents that do not fall within the OSCE definition of hate crime: 33 cases of defamation, 80 of hate speech, and 8 unlawful discrimination cases.
Police reports identified 106 anti-religious crimes, of which approximately 97 were motivated by a bias against Christians.

Official figures record 567 crimes motivated by bias based on sexual orientation, and further 31 hate crimes targeting transgender persons.
Sweden reported 770 crimes motivated by a sexual orientation-related bias. The overall figure presented here (567) excludes the following incidents that do not fall within the OSCE definition of hate crime: 171 cases of defamation; 25 of hate speech; and 7 cases of unlawful discrimination.
The police also recorded 31 hate crimes targeting transgender persons. This figure includes cases of defamation, hate speech and unlawful discrimination and is not included in the total figure.
The Stephen Roth Institute reported six anti-Semitic incidents.
The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights reported 80 hate-motivated incidents.
The UN Human Rights Council, in its Universal Periodic Review, encouraged Sweden to continue efforts to prevent, combat and prosecute hate crimes.
