Greece regularly reports hate crime data to ODIHR.

In 2017, Greece implemented ODIHR’s Prosecutors and Hate Crime Training (PAHCT). In June 2018, an "Agreement on inter-agency co-operation on addressing racist crimes" was concluded by relevant state authorities and a network of civil society organizations (CSOs) as part of ODIHR's project on "Building a Comprehensive Criminal Justice Response to Hate Crimes". Consequently, the agreement has led to improved hate crime recording and data collection. On February 2022, ODIHR held an online diagnostic workshop with government representatives, criminal justice actors and CSOs to assess structures and services for hate crime victim support in Greece.

In 2022, an office within the Ministry of Justice was tasked with overseeing the systematic collection of statistical data on hate crimes.

Incidents reported by civil society, international organizations and the Holy See

Reports

Racist and xenophobic hate crime

Praksis reported 206 hate-motivated incidents resulting in injuries to refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented migrants.

The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe and the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association reported one case of damage to property targeted at the Turkish Youth Union. In addition, the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe reported two arson attacks on the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey and one case of damage to property.

Anti-Semitic hate crime

The Greek Helsinki Monitor reported two anti-Semitic arson attacks on a synagogue in Crete. The Stephen Roth Institute reported seven hate incidents.

Anti-Muslim hate crime

The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe, the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association and the Culture and Solidarity Association of the Turks of Rhodes, Kos and Dodecanese reported one case of the desecration of a cemetery, in which more than 20 gravestones were destroyed. In addition, the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe and the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association reported one arson attack on a mosque, one case of damage to property, in which gravestones were desecrated, and other offences, including attacks against animals belonging to Turkish people. The Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association and the Culture and Solidarity Association of the Turks of Rhodes, Kos and Dodecanese also reported one arson attack.

Human Rights First and the Western Thrace University Graduates Association each reported the desecration of a cemetery .
