The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) reported five physical assaults, including one in which six Muslims students were attacked with baseball bats on their way home, two carried out by a group, and one against twin brothers returning from worshipping at a mosque; a series of incidents against a hair salon owned by a family of Lebanese origin, including an arson attack, graffiti and damage to property; five threats, including a bomb threat against a mosque; seven incidents of damage to mosques and Islamic centres, including broken windows and doors; a further four incidents of graffiti on mosques; two incidents the vandalization of campaign materials of a Muslim candidate in municipal elections; one attempted arson, and; one further incident of graffiti.
B'nai Brith Canada reported six physical assaults, including two carried out by groups and causing serious injuries and one targeting children, one incident of threats against children, two arson attacks, including one against a synagogue, four incidents of damage to property, six incidents of graffiti, three incidents of vandalism of synagogues and one incident of the desecration of a Jewish cemetery.
ODIHR observes that Canada has not reported to ODIHR the numbers of prosecuted hate crime cases and information on sentenced hate crime cases.
