UNITED Conference and Civil Society Training

UNITED's annual conference will take place from 4 to 9 May 2015 under the theme “Overcome all borders; UNITED against Intolerance”. This conference will focus on the intolerance migrants face in Europe with an emphasis on the scapegoating reaction to migration at Southern European borders. The aim of this conference is to create ideas, vision, and strategies to counter this intolerance and the lack of a strong and humane political vision.

In addition to presenting at the event, ODIHR is organizing a workshop for civil society on 9-10 May.

Last day to submit civil society contributions for ODIHR's 2014 Hate Crime Reporting

We are now preparing our annual hate crime reporting and encourage civil society to submit information by 30 April 2015.

Every year on 16 November, International Tolerance Day, the ODIHR releases its hate crime reporting data.

Our reporting provides an overview of hate crimes and incidents, and of responses by governments and civil society in the 57 OSCE participating States. Information provided by civil society is essential to our reporting, as it complements official data submitted by participating States.

Hate Crime Training for Law Enforcement in Skopje

The OSCE Mission to Skopje, in co-operation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), will train 50 law enforcement officers in recognizing, understanding and investigating hate crimes from 23 to 29 April 2015 in Skopje.

ODIHR signs hate crime training agreement with Lithuania

The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and Lithuania signed an agreement on 22 April 2015 to train local law enforcement officers in recognizing, understanding and investigating hate crimes.

Implementation of ODIHR’s Training Against Hate Crimes for Law Enforcement (TAHCLE) programme should improve police skills in preventing and responding to hate crimes, interacting effectively with victim communities, and building public confidence and co-operation with law-enforcement agencies.

Responding to anti-Semitic hate crime in the OSCE region

This consultative civil society workshop will explore the impact anti-Semitic hate crimes have on Jewish communities in the wake of the fatal attacks in Brussels, Paris and Copenhagen and identify practical steps governments can undertake in co-operation with Jewish communities to prevent and respond to anti-Semitic attacks.

Training on Combating Hate Crimes for Civil Society Representatives in Poland

During the interactive two-day workshop, experienced trainers will explain the phenomenon of hate crime, clarify the differences between hate crimes and other manifestations of intolerance (including discrimination and hate speech), and discuss international and national legal obligations. Participants, coming from various communities and groups across Poland, will explore the OSCE concept of hate crime and its repercussions for their own group, as well as other communities. They will share and discuss strategies to address hate crimes through monitoring, reporting and advocacy.
